Play Idea Of The Month
Game: Concentration(4+ year old style!)
Rules:
1. Buy two decks of cards of the presidents of the United States.
[Other options, make two decks of cards containing your child's ABC's, site words......]
2. Shuffle them
3. Lay the cards face down laid out on a flat surface
4. Each player takes a turn at turning two cards face up so all can see.
[Of course you are hoping you have found the two of a given president]
Thoughts:
Ask your children who the person is, what number president he was.
Help them pronounce the names, etc......
5. If the two cards are not matching, then turn them back over and the next
person takes a turn.
Key rules:
Make it fun for 4 year olds+ by helping them, but pretending you aren't and being wowed that they got the match that you just pointed out! How can you do this you say?
6. Let them get a match when they get a match and let them have the match if
they finish your turn or get to the card before you as your arms raise into the
sky before going down to pick up the card! Boy they are fast; and they will
remember where those presidents are!
7. When you know where there are two, turn one over when it is your turn
and put your finger on it's match while you look away at the ceiling or else
where.
Comments from my most recent game:
Ok, my six year old beat me 40 matches to my 3! We are of course having a rematch. And can I tell you how many names, faces and which number president they were that were remembered. We enjoyed the ones that were bald. You could imagine rubbing the top of their heads for luck. We enjoyed those that were bald on top with butterfly hair wings on each side. We enjoyed angry faces, smiley faces, silly faces, young, handsome, older, rose cheeks, Grinch faces, etc.....
